Advocacy
Find support navigating the healing process.
Hospital Advocacy and Accompaniment
Trained advocates accompany survivors of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking to hospitals throughout Summit and Medina Counties during forensic medical exams to provide emotional support and education on their rights as a victim of crime. Additionally, our advocates offer support to non-offending caregivers and their children who have experienced sexual abuse at the CARE Center at Akron Children’s Hospital, ensuring compassionate care and information on crime victims’ rights.
Victim Advocacy Services
Specially trained advocates provide support to survivors as they navigate their experiences in the aftermath of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking by providing continued follow-up care including: emotional support, referral information, and education on crime victims’ rights.
Guidance in the Court System
Hope & Healing’s advocates help survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence explore legal options and provide support every step of the way.
A team of court advocates provide support for survivors as they navigate the justice system through services such as accompaniment to law enforcement interviews, prosecution interviews, and court hearings. Court advocates also assist survivors in filing civil protection orders and provide resources for any additional legal needs.
Finally, in collaboration with Akron Municipal Court and the Summit Court of Common Pleas, our advocates also provide educational courses in an effort to prevent future victimizations and interrupt cycles of violence:
1. The Early Intervention Program (EIP): This course provides education on domestic violence and the cycle of abuse. Additionally, participants receive education on healthy relationship skills and strategies to maintain safety.
2. Stop the Cycle of Domestic Violence: This educational program focuses on breaking the cycle of domestic violence by providing insights into the impacts of domestic violence on children throughout their lifespan, strategies for cultivating healthy relationships, and parenting support, empowering individuals to foster violence-free environments.
3. Stop the Cycle of Human Trafficking: Sex Buyers Intervention Program: This course focuses on intervention strategies to address the demand side of human trafficking, working towards disrupting the cycle and promoting awareness within the community.
