Guidance in the Court System

Hope & Healing’s advocates help survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence explore legal options and provide support every step of the way.

Taking the steps to call the police or file a police report is not always an easy decision to make. Many survivors need time to research and consider their options, and/or develop a safety plan before they take legal action.

Our court advocates can help you make a plan to stay safe, and help you understand legal options and the processes and systems involved.

Our court advocates are specially trained to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence with:

• Navigating the complex criminal and domestic court system and understanding the court process
• Making a safety plan to help you stay safe
• Obtaining Civil Protection Orders in Domestic Relations Court
• Accompanying you and your loved ones to hearings, providing comfort and support
• Helping you and your loved ones understand the criminal justice process and providing support before, during, and after the case
• Providing education about domestic and sexual abuse
• Answering questions and assisting with the necessary paperwork
• Offering connections to services in the community to help meet individual needs

Our advocates do not give out legal advice, however, we can refer you to legal services who can provide legal advice.
