Our Mission

At Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center, we are committed to the prevention of violence through action and empowerment, and providing trauma-informed services to survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking in Medina and Summit Counties, Ohio.

Our vision at Hope & Healing is the eradication of domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking, to foster safer and more compassionate communities.

Our History

Since its early beginnings in the 1970s, Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center has evolved from grassroots initiatives to a comprehensive resource, standing as a beacon of hope for countless survivors in Medina County and Summit County in Northeast Ohio.

Combining the legacies of the Battered Women’s Shelter and the Rape Crisis Centers in Summit and Medina Counties, Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center offers comprehensive services for survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. Its trauma-informed services support survivors every step of the way, including emergency shelter, court advocacy, hospital advocacy, therapy, support groups, case management, and much more.

The culmination of decades of dedication and hard work arrived with the birth of the Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center in 2016, with official merging of the two organizations in 2026. Hope & Healing’s innovative Akron campus includes one of the largest emergency shelters in the State of Ohio, and together with its shelter in Medina, provides capacity to serve over 130 survivors and children.

Hope & Healing supports survivors beyond the walls of its shelters, as well. Meeting survivors where they are, Hope & Healing provides case management, court advocacy, and other supportive services in the community, holding regular drop-in hours, community centers, and other locations convenient to survivors.

Hope & Healing supports survivors around the clock, whether sharing support, information, and referrals through the 24/7 crisis hotline, or accompanying survivors in the hospital.

Hope & Healing provides community education to raise awareness and reduce stigma, and advocates for changes to better support survivors at a broader level.

With its vision to eradicate sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, Hope & Healing works to prevent violence through action and empowerment, envisioning a safer future for all.
